Health is one of the most important parts of every human’s life. Most people today have one or the other when it comes to their health: good or bad. In fact, there may be some of you out there who might be thinking that your health is so bad, that it’s too late for you to do anything about it. Good health left you a long time ago, with no evidence of returning. Well, that’s where I want to encourage you otherwise. Good health can return back to you. How? You have the power within you to take back your health. It’s never too late.
The state of your health is a choice.
For most of us who have been born into this world, God has given us the choice in choosing how healthy we really want to be. This statement fully excludes those who were born with certain issues that they can’t help. However, for those of us who can help it, we must accept the fact that the state of our health is a choice. With that choice, we either choose the blessing of it being good or the curse of it being bad.

To be clear, there are many different types of health. However, it is the physical aspect that I have chosen to address today. Altogether, all forms are important. Nevertheless, the one that gets us around to do what we need to do in life relies on what we are capable to do physically.
What is physical wellness?
Physical Wellness is a state of well-being. It is the ability to perform aspects of sports, occupations, and daily activities. Also, Physical Wellness is listening to and taking care of your body for optimal health and functioning. When it comes to physical wellness, there are five components that should give attention to:
- Nutrition and diet
- Physical activity
- Medical self-care
- Alcohol and drugs
- Rest and sleep
Why is it important to take care of our physical well-being?
Taking care of our bodies physically is important for several reasons:
- First, in addressing the spiritual aspect, our bodies are not our own. God, the One who created us, said that our bodies are His temples. It is in our bodies that we are called to glorify Him.
Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at at price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.
~1 Corinthians 6:19-20
- Second, we only get one body. One. Our bodies are human body systems. They work well with proper care and guidance. Without such things, your body would cease to function the way you need it to. Hence, you become limited in what you are capable of doing.
- Third, facing the pandemic of Covid-19 should have taught us all that being physically fit is vital for survival. To live healthier is to live longer. We want to be around for a long time to be of service and support to those around us.
Don’t be this person.
During a season of life, I needed volunteer hours. So I volunteered my time at a place that was right up the road from where I lived. Working there was this really sweet woman. She had many health issues. Firstly, she was morbidly obese. Secondly, she required the help of a walker to get where she had to go. Thirdly, in her purse, she carried nothing but bottles and bottles of prescribed medications that she took daily.
I do not share this to look down on or belittle this woman. That will never be my intention. In conversation with her, she said that her desire was to one day no longer be overweight and to have to take all of those pills. What was unknown to me was if she was actually doing anything about it at the time. That was her business. It was not and still is not mine.
Nonetheless, to reflect back to her health condition leads me to encourage you. To be unhealthy is not your lot in life. To carry around purses or bags full of medications that do not help you get better, yet merely treat the symptoms is not your lot in life.

How to take back your health:
- Start NOW. There’s no greater time than right now for you to begin the journey to take back one of the most important parts of your life. Make time for what keeps you physically well. Take an assessment of the things you’re doing right now to see where you can fit in the time you need.
“If you don’t make time for your wellness, you will make time for your illness.”

2. Start SMALL. Where can you make a small change? Is it in your eating or drinking? Maybe you can start swapping one soda for another glass of water. Or instead of that candy bar, go for a piece of your favorite fruit. There doesn’t have to be overwhelm when first starting out. Your changes do not have to be big. They can be small. Small changes add up to big results over time.
3. Start WITH HELP. You do not have to go at this alone. The world around you is full of individuals who have taken back their health. Because of that, you have a plethora of information at your fingertips. I bet you know of someone already that you can turn to. Do it. I’m sure they will love to help you. If not, feel free to reach out to me. Together, we will get you the help you need.
Remember, it is never too late to start a journey to better health. Your body will thank you. Are you ready?
