Has living your life become a dread to you? Do you feel lost? Without direction? Like you, too, are stuck and your life just isn’t moving forward the way you thought it would? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then, maybe momentum is something you need. In this week’s reading, I want to address what is momentum plus how you can have it in 2026.
Last week I shared with you my one word for 2026. I stated how I had faced a season of feeling stuck. With prayer and asking God for wisdom, He revealed to me that I needed focus. When I got focused, I found something that I needed even more. Momentum.
Maybe you’ve come into this new year with the hope that you can finally see some things change. Friend, you are not alone. I want to tell you that you can. With some momentum, you will.
First, let me share something with you. Look closely. Read carefully. It is not God’s will for you to be or feel stuck in your life. God’s desire for your life is for it to prosper. God’s desire is that your life has forward movement.
“Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.” ~3 John 1:2
Second, every new year comes with a new beginning and new opportunities. God, in 2026, has provided us all with a fresh clean slate. He has thrown off the oldness of the year before and given us the newness of the year ahead.
What you feel you didn’t accomplish last year, you’ve been given another chance to do it this year.
Guess what? I don’t know if you’ve realized it yet, but the years continuously roll forward whether we want them to or not.
Tada! They rise up and present themselves without fail.
Just like our year is new, so is our every day. Every day we have the opportunity to make every second of every minute of every hour of every day of every week of every month of every year count.
For us, this year, that is where momentum comes in.

What is momentum?
We will travel down a rabbit hole for a minute. Navigating having momentum and the understanding of it is still quite new to me. So, as I’m learning, I’m sharing.
One source says that momentum is inertia in motion. Another source says that momentum is the force or speed of movement, as of a physical object or course of events.
Momentum is made up of two components. One component is mass which is the measure of the inertia of a body. The other is velocity. Velocity is the rate of speed with which something happens. Because we are talking about life, we will say the speed of the course of events.
Now let’s look at the definition of inertia. Inertia is defined as inertness, especially with regard to effort, motion, action, and the like. Inertness is described as idleness, inactivity, or stagnation.
When we combine the meanings of all the words above, we can say that a good paraphrase for the meaning of momentum is putting movement to something that is not moving, making forward progress whether fast or slow.
What does having momentum mean for you?
Having momentum will be the driving force to seeing the changes you desire. It won’t just move you forward, it will give you a sense of accomplishment, make you believe that you’re thriving, and remove the sting that comes with feeling stuck.
For so long, some of us have been doing the opposite of having momentum. We have been stationary, remaining in the same condition or the same state. Not moving. Not changing. Therefore, we’ve made no real progress, no forward movement, and we’ve seen no real growth.
As was mentioned earlier, the seconds, the minutes, the hours, the days, the weeks, the months, and the years of our lives continuously roll forward whether we want them to or not. They are gifts that have been given to us. We have an opportunity to make them all count.
Picture a car that’s on empty and in need of fuel. Without fuel it won’t move. It’s stuck. Whereas, when the tank becomes filled with fuel, only then is it able to move and take you wherever you need it to go.
In comparison, we are the same way. We must fill our lives with what they are empty of in order for them to move forward, thus creating the changes we want to see.
So, how can you go about having momentum in 2026?

You must do a life evaluation.
You must pause and take the time to look over, take account of and assess your life. Evaluating your life will help you take proper accountability for your actions or lack thereof.
One way you can do that is by asking not only the hard questions but the right questions. Those that are necessary to get the momentum rolling. Here are a few questions you can start with:
- What quality of life was I created to live and am I living it?
- What do I believe about life?
- What decisions have I made (or not made) that have brought me to this moment?
- What was I created to do?
- What are my dreams?
- What do I value?
- What are my fears?
- In what ways have I been positively contributing to my life?
- In what ways have I been hindering my life?
- What or who has been my biggest influence?
- What are my habits?
You must confess your faults.
Many people tend to only focus on confessing what they deem to be good. You know, the stuff that they believe works well on their behalf. Confessing your faults works well too. Why? It pulls what’s hidden in the dark and brings it to the light. Of course, that’s not always a pretty or comfortable thing. Thankfully though, it is necessary.
We all have faults. As you ask the questions you need to ask, as you reflect on what becomes revealed, don’t turn away from what seems to look bad. Face it. Embrace it. Confess it. There is power in confession.
You must make the changes that are needed.
Did you know that as human beings we have a natural tendency to resist change? There are so many reasons as to why that is. Here are a few that I have observed in my own life:
- Fear of the unknown. It left me with so many unanswered questions. What if I didn’t like the changes? What if this change required something of me that I didn’t want to give?
- Forced out of comfort zone. Honestly, I didn’t like where I was. Sadly, I was comfortable there. Change meant that I would have to leave what had become familiar to me to go into what was uncomfortable.
- Just too lazy. Change not only meant being forced out of comfort zones and having to face the unknown. It also meant having to do things that, in my flesh, I did not want to do. Exert energy I didn’t want to exert. Get up and move when I only wanted to sit. Change was terrifying for me. I used to hate it.
Friend, can you relate? How do you view change? Fortunately, my view of change has changed. I no longer view it as something terrible. Being a follower of Christ has taught me that change is good. Seasons of life call for it. Plus, there are many benefits.
“To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; a time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; a time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; a time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.” ~Ecclesiastes 3:1-8
Earlier in the text, I stated that the opposite of momentum is stationary. It’s important to note that something stationary also means that it is in a permanent fixed position.
There is nothing in our lives that has a permanent fixed position except our identity in Christ. In Christ, we are and forever will be considered children, sons and daughters of God. When it comes to our relationship with Christ, there should be momentum. Movement. Growth. Change.
Do you want to grow? Have you decided that you are finally ready to move beyond where you are right now? I encourage you to make the changes that you know you need to make.
You must ask for help.
Not just for any help. Ask for the Holy Spirit’s help. Let’s face it, up until now, the reason you have not been able to move yourself from the place of stuck is because you have not had the right help. You’ve tried, right? Many years probably. If you’re like me, you’ve also sought help through many people and many things. All to no avail.
Could it be said that you have been trying to do it apart from Jesus? I ask this not to condemn. However, Jesus himself said that without Him, you can do nothing. It’s the reason He sent us a Helper.
“And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever.” ~John 14:16
Friend, the God who didn’t will for you to live life stuck, also made provision for you to have help in not doing so. So, if you are going to have and see real momentum, you’re going to need to ask God for His help.
“I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.” ~John 15:5
You must do the work.
Picture it. You are a player in the game of life. But right now, you’re not even on the field. Life is just happening and you are watching it from the sidelines. While you are watching, you realize that you are losing. You’re taking mental note after mental note of all the stuff that is happening that you don’t like. You’re murmuring, complaining, yelling, kicking, and screaming.
You can see what needs to be done to turn the game of life into a win. You’ve asked the questions. Sought the answers. You know what to do, but you won’t get off the sidelines. You won’t get into the game to do what you know. Consequently, you’re losing.
Can I ask you a question? Are you tired yet? When are you going to get in the game of your life? The changes you need to make will not happen unless you move. You have to get in from the sidelines. Doing the work is where you will find your momentum. Movement is the game plan.
I hear people all the time say these detrimental words that are a hindrance to their lives. They say, “This is the way I am, have always been, and I’m not changing.” Friend, this is what causes so many people to not become who God has created them to become.
Again, the will of God is for your life to be prosperous. However, it will not happen without your participation to change.
You are the deciding factor.
Momentum = mass x velocity, right? Let me tell you that you are the mass in your life. The velocity is the rate of speed at which you move to do the work. It may be fast. It may be slow. Let’s not make that your focus. The speed and movement you need is not a matter of fast or slow but constant.
When you come out of being stationary and get into having some movement in your life, the momentum will become so evident. It is my prayer that your desire be for the sole reason of moving you towards what’s good and fruit-bearing for the glory of God.
Are you ready?
