Do you ever have moments where you feel that God is silent? Like He’s not speaking to you or answering your prayers? Like you can’t hear His voice? You have been asking, seeking, and knocking but still….. nothing? I get it. I’ve been there. And I discovered that the noise of the world had gotten too loud. Here’s one thing to do when the noise of the world gets too loud.
God’s desire is that all of creation will hear His voice. It’s a blessed benefit of having a personal relationship with Him. And guess what? It is not a one-sided thing. He wants to communicate with us and for us to communicate with Him. For that to not be happening means that there is a disconnect somewhere.

Here’s what it boils down to:
When it comes to the moments that we feel we are not hearing from God, it really boils down to two things:
1. We are too distracted.
Today, there are many things that pull for our attention, so-much-so, that it is easy for us to get distracted. We can’t hear Him because of all the things we have to do with our families, in our homes, with our friends, or at work, even at church. When we do have a moment to spend with God, we have a hard time focusing. Right?
2. We are tuned into the wrong frequency.
There’s a dial on the radio of our lives, but it’s tuned into the wrong frequency. Instead of being able to hear the voice of God, we hear that of everybody else. We hear that of the stranger’s. And it is the very opposite of what God intends for us. His desire is that we hear and know His voice and His voice alone.
Yet they will by no means follow a stranger, but will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers.” ~John 10:5
So, what is the one thing that we can do?

Turn down the noise.
In today’s world, the easy access to all things social media has thrown a major curve into our lives. We’ve become so captivated by what everyone else is doing. All…the…time. In fact, there is hardly ever a moment in our everyday lives where we are found without some type of electronic device in our hands. And, the affects of this have been good and bad.
Good in that we are able to connect with people all over the world, have access to different types of online job opportunities, and a host of other great things.
Bad in that it has become addicting to most and is one of the major causes of a lot of mental health issues.
Then, there are our personal matters that we face on the daily. Some of us juggle a lot of things throughout our day-to-day lives. It doesn’t matter if we are married or single. Whether we work outside the home or we are SAHM’s, our responsibilities are endless. So, in the midst of it all, distraction is bound to happen. And when distraction comes, so does the noise.
Could a challenge be what you need?
Daily, we are challenged by the enemy of this world to give our attention over to things that do not really matter. The battle is truly constant. However, just as the enemy challenges us, we must respond with a challenge of our own.
As always, there is good news! We are not without hope.
Join me in a challenge. A challenge that calls us to remove all distractions and to tune into the right frequency. The frequency of God. To hear His voice and to know for sure that it’s His voice we hear. A challenge that calls us to return to our First Love.
Here is your participation blueprint:
Simply take 30 minutes a day for 30 days. In this thirty minutes you will worship God for five minutes, read the Word of God for ten minutes, and spend time praying for the last fifteen minutes. Easy right?
Let’s face it, finding time for anything of value is a challenge in today’s society. The way of the world today is one of everything fast, rushed, comfortable, and convenient. Sad but true. However, as great a benefit as it is to our relationship with God, spending time with Him does not have to be done for hours and hours.
Also, the enemy of our souls loves to distract us with whatever he can so that we won’t spend time with God. It will surprise you, though, that where you think you don’t have the time, you actually do. It’s called a challenge for a reason. I’m challenging you to make the time. We all get off track. This is your call to be intentional again. The art of 30 minutes is to get you to realize that you can start small.

I bet there are some things that God has been wanting to say to you. I also bet that you want to know what God has to say. Now is your opportunity to draw away from the norm, get into the presence of God and ask, “Father God, what have You been wanting to say to me?”
Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.... ~James 4:8
Join me, starting December 1st, and let’s practice the art of silence so that we can hear God speak together.
