Trust Holy Spirit’s Leading

A Lesson from My Shoes

There I was driving to find the perfect shoe to complete the outfit I had chosen for my 40th birthday pics. I had already known what kind of shoe I wanted. It was just a matter of what store in the area where I was headed would have them. There were only two places that I really had in mind. Target. Ross’s. Target was the first place that came to mind.

“I’ll go to Target first and then I’ll go to Ross’s,” I said. “Nah, I’ll go to Ross’s first, because they have the prices I like. And then I’ll go to Target because I really don’t want to spend that much.” Yes, I was trying to save a few bucks.

Trying to save in one way costed me in another.

I get to Ross’s, and head straight to the shoe isle. I looked, and I looked, and I looked. To no avail. I did not find “the shoe”. So, I left there a bit disappointed because I felt like I had wasted some of the precious time I could have used getting ready for my photo shoot.

Off to Target I go. No sooner than I stepped into the shoe isle, there…they…were…. ”the shoes”. Not only were they the design, the heel length and the color, they even came topped with sparklies. Yay! There was just one more pair in the size I needed. I grabbed them, paid for them, and left feeling excited. My wardrobe was complete…finally.

Repentance was in order for me.

A show of hands for who drives and talks to God while in the car? Some of the best conversations take there, right?

The conversation I had with Him went like this… ”See, Lord, I should have listened. Thank You, Holy Spirit. And forgive me for not listening to You in the first place. Had I have gone where you told me to go first, I would not have had to be disappointed with the time I had wasted by doing what ‘I’ thought was best to do.”

Now, the lesson:

If you are a child of God, you will never have to wonder if God speaks. He does. Even in the simplest things. All we have to do is listen to Him and trust His Holy Spirit to lead us.

As I learned the other day, His guidance is perfect. My photos did not turn out too bad either. Check out the collage below.
